    By Justin Tasch
pic Last season marked the first time since 2002 that the Binghamton University men’s soccer team failed to reach the America East championship game. The team was left with a sour taste in their mouths after falling to University of Maryland, Baltimore County 2-1 in the quarterfinals, just a week after defeating the Retrievers 4-0. The Bearcats have redemption on their minds as they prepare for the 2010 campaign. The squad will be a relatively young one. Therefore it is particularly crucial that the veteran players lead by example and set the tone for the younger players. They have done just…

The team earned five of the seven possible first-place votes and received a total of 33 points, beating out Albany by a mere two points. “It is a great honor to be picked first,” head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. “From last year, we know it’s going to be a tough road. It’s not going to be easy and every team is going to be tough to play.” The Bearcats are the…

pic A year after taking the America East by storm, the Binghamton University women’s soccer team is looking to continue the surprise success it experienced last season. Baseball: The team entered the America East Tournament as the top seed, but lost two of three games to fall short of repeating as conference champions. Members of the team had earned America East Player of the Year (Corey Taylor), Pitcher of the Year (James Giulietti) and Coach of the Year (Tim Sinicki). Outfielder Henry Dunn was drafted in the 50th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Meanwhile, former…
  • Former tennis assistant McGovern named new women’s tennis coach

    By Justin Mathew
After compiling 91 wins in his seven seasons as women’s tennis head coach at Binghamton University, Mike Stevens has decided to try his hand at a new challenge. Stevens was signed as the head coach of the women’s tennis team at Cornell University for the upcoming season. Stevens’ replacement, Libby McGovern, was assistant coach for the men’s team from 2003 to 2006. “Overall, the program has had a lot of success in the last nine years and I am looking forward to helping the student-athletes on the team hopefully add to these achievements,” she said, according to a Binghamton University…
  • Cross country preparing for title defense

    By James Carlucci
pic The Binghamton University men’s cross country team is primed for another run at the America East championship this season. Leading a mature group of runners, head coach Annette Acuff believes the team could exceed its accomplishments from this past year. “On paper, it should be our best year ever,” she said. “We return 11 of our top 12 guys and everyone is healthy.” Seven runners are either graduate students or seniors, meaning this likely will be the last version of this team Binghamton sees. Graduate student standout Chris Gaube echoed his coach’s statements and said experience was a big reason…
