After almost eight months of controversy, the future of the Binghamton University’s men’s basketball team showed signs of life as Mark Macon confirmed Tuesday that he signed a two-year contract to stay on as interim head coach. Macon’s change of position from assistant coach came after the suspension of head coach Kevin Broadus, who violated NCAA rules in October. Last season, Macon helped the Bearcats to a 13-18 overall record, including an 8-8 record in the America East Conference despite having a revamped roster. “I was surprised that [the extension] was two years,” Macon said, according to the Press & Sun-Bulletin. “I wasn’t looking at anything. I was just hoping that they brought Broadus back and things would get settled.” As for Broadus, his fate with Binghamton University remains unclear. He filed a racial discrimination complaint against top administrators and the school in late March.
