What do you get when you cross a 3-11 record team with its No. 11 nationally-ranked team conference counterpart?

There really is no answer.
The Binghamton University women’s lacrosse team continued its winless conference season (0-5), falling to Boston University in its largest margin of defeat, 19-5. The Terriers, undefeated in conference play (5-0), secured the top seed in the America East tournament after the win.
“We played 27 minutes of straight defense and you can’t win that way,” said Binghamton head coach Tony Zostant according to a Binghamton University press release. “It’s just a consistency thing. We need to come out and play for 60 minutes.”
The Terriers had nine unanswered goals and held the Bearcats at bay until sophomore Beth Moore scored with 13:47 left in the first half. Freshman Meg Brown, who led the Bearcats in scoring, netted the last Bearcat goal of the half one minute later to make the score 9-2. By the end of the first half, Boston led the match, 15-2.
Outshooting the Terriers 8-6 in the second, Binghamton seemed like a different team from the first half when the Terriers dominated with a 26-4 shooting advantage.
Still, the Bearcats could not muster enough effort to close the gap. Despite efforts from Brown, sophomore Ali Castiglie and freshman Riley Newman, Boston had two goals of its own and dominated the game, winning 19-5.
“Boston is undefeated in conference play for a reason,” Zostant said. “They are very skilled and played well. Our defensive unit played well in the second half.”
The Terrier’s Traci Landy had a career-high six goals in the match while fellow junior McKinley Curro and senior Sarah Dalton tallied hat tricks for the Terriers, helping seal a ninth-straight win for Boston.
The Bearcats will have the opportunity to host their final two matches of the season. They are scheduled to face Marist College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and the University of New Hampshire the following Saturday at 1 p.m.
