The Binghamton University men’s tennis team continued to impress with another strong showing this past weekend at the Brown Invitational. This weekend’s performance was highlighted by strong play from junior Sven Vloedgraven, junior Arnav Jain and sophomore Gilbert Wong.

“Overall the team played well,” said Binghamton head coach Adam Cohen. “We were able to send seven players and our team is playing at a good level right now. We are showing the other teams within the region that we are a team people should prepare seriously for.”
The weekend’s invitational was a mock-dual, different from the previous tournaments. Mock-duals are similar to the style of play in the spring, but the matches are played without a team result.
The Bearcats continue to prepare for the spring season and the next tournament is the biggest of the fall.
The Northeast Regional at Dartmouth will be held Oct. 15t to 20. The tournament is a gathering of the region’s top players. All entrants participate in one flight, and the tournament plays out until there is one winner. The winner of the tournament then gets to go on to the National Indoor Championship, which hosts the top players in the country.
The ITA National Tournament Committee will decide the players who receive wild cards into the tournament. If the Bearcats were to enter everyone in the Regional, there may only be a few players who get to play in the main draw of the National Indoor Championship.
Each region will play a tournament netting 12 total winners, 12 nationally ranked players qualify automatically for the event and the other 12 to get in are the wild cards. The 36 players play for the National Indoor Championship title.
“We haven’t been working on anything in particular,” said Cohen. “We just try and work on certain things with different guys to try and make them each better.”
