Three local residents, including two current Binghamton University students and one former student, were charged in drug-related felonies last week, according to a report in the Press & Sun-Bulletin.

Members of the Broome County Narcotics Task Force charged each of the three men on the morning of March 10. They were arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.

BU student Alexander Soghanalian, 24, of Ararat Drive in Vestal, was charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled substance, all felonies. The report also stated that he was charged with fifth-degree possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor.

According to the report, a second BU student, James Venia, 23, of Chapin Street in Binghamton, was charged with second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, all felonies.

Following a raid at a house on Carroll Street in Binghamton, former BU student Steven Jimenez, 24, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, according to the report.

A report from News Channel 34 said that the house where Jimenez was arrested is the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house. News Channel 34 reported that Jimenez allegedly had 4 ounces of powder cocaine in his bedroom with a street value of $10,000, in addition to $4,000 cash. A fellow student said Jimenez is not a member of the fraternity, according to the report.

Officials from the city of Binghamton Police Department could not provide details on the charges.
