Bearcats aquatics drop meets to Minutemen, look ahead to showdown with Drexel Dragons

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams found themselves caught in a wave as they lost to host UMass. The men’s team fell 182-117 while the women dropped the meet 171-107.

The Bearcats kicked off the match in full force, winning the women’s 200-meter medley relay. Juniors Brittany Detlef, Amanda Ciccone, Lyndsi Worthington and Allyce Brand finished with a time of 1:50.54. The time was just six-hundredths of a second ahead of rival UMass.

Ciccone’s hot win streak continued with a first place finish in the 200-meter freestyle (1:54.48), 50 free (24.12) and 100 free (52.46) while freshman Melissa Lindahl claimed victory in the 200 backstroke (2:10.67) and placed third in the 100 back.

On the men’s front, junior Jason Chen continued to shine finishing on top in both the 200 back (1:56.12) and the 200 IM (1:58.98). He also finished second in the 200 free.

Sophomore Joe Perez-Rogers also had a first-place finish, picking up a win in the 100 back (51.83) and a third-place finish in the 100 free.

Brand came in second place for the 100 free and third in the 100 breast while freshman Olivia Baczek rolled in at second place in the 200 back. Meanwhile Detlef brought the Bearcats a second place finish in the 200 butterfly and third in the 100 fly while senior Rita Brodfuehrer finished second in the 100 fly and third in the 200 fly.

In diving, junior Liz Eposito took second place on the three-meter while sophomore Morgan Neal dove into a third place finish.

Sophomore Nolan Slesnick finished second in the 1000 free and the 500 free for the men while freshman Josh Saccurato touched second in the 200 fly.

Sophomore Nick Turner took third place on the 3-meter board (273.38).

The Bearcats head back to the Aquatics Center to take on Drexel Saturday, Nov. 14. The meet is set to start at 1 p.m.
