Police Watch

TUESDAY, Feb. 26, 5:30 a.m. — A 62-year-old male cleaner found the words “juice” and “asap” scrawled in red on the back of the men’s bathroom door on the first floor of the Fine Arts building, said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of Binghamton’s New York State University Police.

Police have received reports of the same vandalism in other campus locations before. This graffiti is “quite prolific,” but doesn’t appear to be gang-related, Bush said. “Just somebody tagging.”

Police have no suspects.

TUESDAY, Feb. 26, 8 a.m. — A 38-year-old female non-student has been making off-color comments for about three weeks to library staff at the University Downtown Center on 67 Washington St., Bush said. The female, who has a Binghamton address, has been coming to the UDC, a public facility, during evening hours and has been using obscene language and making anti-Semitic remarks.

“She made statements that the Binghamton police department is out to get her and the government is watching her,” Bush said. “She hasn’t made any threats, just disruptive.”

UDC staff have confronted her, but she hasn’t stopped.

Police made no arrests, but informed staff and officers on location about the female.

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 27, 2 a.m. — Residential Life is investigating a barrage of yellow chalk graffiti on the exterior of buildings in College-in-the-Woods, Bush said. The words “anarky” and “penis” were scrawled on the dining hall near the breezeway entrance. The word “penis” was written two more times on the west side of the building. On Cayuga Hall, the word “penis” was written four times and “uggs kill yo self” was written once. “Grove” was written three times on Oneida Hall. Police have no suspects.

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 27, 5:50 p.m. — Someone stole a 22-year-old female student’s gold plastic wallet from a bench in the women’s locker room in the East Gym, Bush said. She left the wallet unattended for 15 minutes. When she returned, the $30 wallet along with her bank card, driver’s license and $30 in cash were gone. Police have no suspects.

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 27, 10 p.m. — A 53-year-old male maintenance worker reported to police that the wall mount for a VCR/DVD player had been pulled from the wall in a classroom in the “N” side of the Engineering Building, Bush said. Police have no suspects.

THURSDAY, Feb. 29, midnight — A male building guard reported to police that three exit signs were damaged on the second floor of Newing College’s Broome Hall, Bush said. Officers did not describe the damages in the report, but Bush speculates that the vandals had tried to rip the signs from the building.

“You know how they try and knock ‘em down,” Bush said.

Police have no suspects.
