FRIDAY, April 18, 3 p.m. — A male tried to open the door to the south exit of the Glenn G. Bartle Library, but couldn’t because his hands were full, said Investigator Matt Rossie of Binghamton’s New York State University Police. He then kicked the door, breaking the glass. The male ran away.

A female library staff member witnessed the incident.

The cost to fix the glass is $100.

SUNDAY, April 20, 3 a.m. — He was burning something on 4/20, but it wasn’t weed.

Police arrested a 19-year-old male student outside the rear of College-in-the-Woods’ Oneida Hall and gave him a felony charge of fourth-degree arson and a misdemeanor charge of second-degree reckless endangerment, Rossie said.

Patrol had spotted “suspicious activity” there before stopping the student, who was with another 19-year-old male student and an 18-year-old male student, Rossie said.

Rossie couldn’t further describe the activity, but said damage to the exterior of the building was valued at $80.

The student, a resident of another building in CIW, was set to appear at Vestal Town Court on Tuesday, April 22, at 5:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, April 20, 10:47 p.m. — Three students were arrested and charged with third-degree criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor, Rossie said.

Police responded to a call from a resident of Mountainview College’s Hunter Hall that a 19-year-old male student forcibly entered the front door.

Officers found about six people standing in a circle outside the hall.

“Police reported a very strong odor of marijuana on all of the group and where they were standing,” Rossie said.

The people scattered, but police caught the 19-year-old male along with an 18-year-old female and a 19-year-old female. They were then identified by the resident as the people who had entered the hall illegally. The students were not residents of Hunter.

They will appear in Vestal Town Court on Thursday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m.

SUNDAY, April 20, 11:30 p.m. — Three students were busted for marijuana in Hinman College’s Roosevelt Hall, Rossie said.

A resident assistant reported to police that a marijuana odor was coming from a room. Officers responded and knocked on the door, but no one answered. Police then walked around the hallway to see if the odor was coming any other rooms.

Officers returned to the door of the room in question. Just as they were about to knock, the three residents arrived. Police questioned the residents, all 18-year-old males, about the odor. The students admitted they had been smoking marijuana earlier that evening and had just returned from the Hinman Night Owl.

The students let police in the room. Officers found “a full baggy of a green leafy substance, a partial baggy of a green leafy substance and a broken glass pipe,” Rossie said. The substance, which police said totaled one gram, tested positive for marijuana.

The students were referred to Judicial Affairs.

TUESDAY, April 22, 1:30 p.m. — A 19-year-old resident of CIW’s Seneca Hall returned from a weekend home to find his Dell laptop and power cord missing from his room, Rossie said. The student said he locked his door before leaving on Friday and that the door was locked again upon arrival. The room was undisturbed, sans the laptop.

The laptop and power cord are valued at approximately $1,200. Police have no suspects.

WEDNESDAY, April 23, 4:23 p.m. — Police received a call reporting loud noise outside of Minnewaska Hall in Hillside Community, Rossie said.

Officers responded and saw four apparently intoxicated male students yelling and running around. They told officers they did not know they were being too loud, they were “just running around and riding a bicycle.”

Officers advised the students to keep the noise volume down. No arrests were made.
