The Binghamton University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams slayed the Dragon on Saturday, taking care of visiting Drexel in the second home meet of the year. The Bearcat men combined for a score of 166 against the visiting Dragons who collected just 134 points while the women won by a score of 182-118.

Junior Jason Chen continued to swim strongly for the Bearcats, touching first in two races: the 100-yard butterfly (52.27) and the 100 backstroke (53.51). Sophomore Nolan Slesnick grabbed a couple of victories himself, taking the 500-yard freestyle (4:47.79) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:14.12). Sophomore Joe Perez-Rogers won the 100 free with a time of 48.01.

Two freshmen picked up their first collegiate wins this weekend with Jon Dinces placing first in the 200-yard free (1:48.41) and Tim Cabasino placing first in the 50-yard free (22.52).

Sophomore diver Nick Turner continued to shine, he placed first in the 3-meter (268.80) and second on the 1-meter.

The women continued with solid performances, picking up several wins throughout the meet. Freshman Tin Wai Siu and Junior Amanda Ciccone paced the Bearcats with two victories each. Siu placed first in the 200 fly (2:05.69) and the 100 fly (57.44). Ciccone won the 200 free with a time of 1:54.28 and the 200 breast with a career best time of 2:28.60.

Junior Danielle Gallo won the 100 breast with a time of 1:09.06 and Allyce Brand took the 50 free with a time of 25.12. Freshman Melissa Lindahl touched first in the 200 back (2:11.30) and Caitlin Nelson won the 100 free (55.14). Sophomore Kylie Cremer grabbed her first collegiate victory with a time of 4:45.23 in the 400 IM.

Sophomore Morgan Neal placed second on the 3-meter (180.45) and fourth of the 1-meter (166.43) for the women divers.

“In the last couple of years, we really wanted to have power for both the men and the women, and now we’ve got it,” said Binghamton head coach Sean Clark, according to a Binghamton University press release. “We were good against Vermont, but I think we were even better today. Big wins today. We’re well-balanced, we’re focused, we’re really enjoying seeing results after hard training.”

The women are scheduled to take on Canisius next Friday in the West Gym at 5 p.m. before heading on the road with the Bearcat men to face Siena and Marist on the road on Saturday.
