SATURDAY, SEPT. 23, 9:40 p.m. — A window on the first floor of Dickinson College’s Digman Hall was broken when a 19-year-old hall resident put his fist through it. He at first fled the scene, but later admitted to police that he had done it — but that he had merely been knocking on the window to get the attention of a friend. No charges were filed, but he will have to pay for the window, said Investigator Matt Rossie of Binghamton’s New York State University Police.

MONDAY, SEPT. 25, 5:30 p.m. — Yet another student, this one female, left her belongings in unattended in the East Gym. This time they were left in a cubbie outside FitSpace. They were stolen. She lost around $182 worth of property, including clothing, a cell phone, sheet music — and pepper spray, in a convenient legal-sized mini-tube. Police have no suspects.

A message from Pipe Dream and the University police: It seems as though people aren’t getting the point of the headline “Lock your shit up.” Here’s a reminder: lock your shit up! This place has around 13,000 people milling around; some of them are bound to be thieves, or at the very least generally shady. This seems double so in the East Gym, where stories of stolen property have dominated the pages of Police Watch of late. Leaving your possessions unattended is just asking for one of them to make you a victim. Buy a $6 lock, bring quarters, pay for a semester’s locker fees — just do something to make sure you’re not allowing someone else to profit from your misplaced trust.
