Two Binghamton University students were arrested in connection with a car theft that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, Sept. 23.
The students, Marc Vento and Justin T. Lewis, both 18, are accused of stealing the car of another BU student, Melissa Vitow, 21, from in front of her Seminary Avenue home. The two were apparently able to gain access to the house, as they used her keys to take the car without damaging it at around 5:07 a.m.
It was unclear whether the two were guests of Vitow, or of anyone else in the house.
Vento and Lewis were arrested nearly an hour later by BU’s New York State University Police in Lot M2, where they had taken the car, a 1998 Ford Thunderbird. They were charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony. They were released with tickets to appear in Vestal Town Court Thursday afternoon for arraignment.
Court records indicate that they had admitted to police that they had in fact taken the car.
Neither Vento nor Lewis — who are freshmen, and roommates in Mountainview College’s Hunter Hall — were available for comment Thursday night. A man who identified himself as Vitow’s father at her Center Moriches, N.Y., home declined to comment.
