Perhaps rust accumulated during a 17-day break from game action. Maybe Colgate just had one of those nights where the basket seemed bigger than a hula hoop. Regardless, Binghamton fell to the Raiders, 74-47, in its first game since Dec. 11.

After trading baskets for the first four-plus minutes, Colgate (4-9) outscored the Bearcats (2-10) 41-17 over the next 20 minutes to take control of the game, 52-26. The Raiders would not let Binghamton within 16 the rest of the way.

Colgate senior Murphy Burnatowski led all scorers with 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including three treys. Prior to the game Binghamton head coach Tommy Demspey said limiting Burnatowski and junior Pat Moore from deep would be the Bearcats’ top priority. The duo combined to shoot 6-of-13 from beyond the arc, leading the Raiders to a 39.3 percent clip on 28 attempts.

For Binghamton, senior guard Jimmy Gray scored 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. No other Bearcat shot better than 30.8 percent.

Freshman Jordan Reed recorded his sixth double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 guard is now tied for the most double-doubles among the nation’s freshmen.
