Coming off a win last weekend at home, the Binghamton men’s soccer team drew 1-1 with Le Moyne this Saturday. The Bearcats took the lead in the first half, but the Dolphins equalized the game on a free kick early in the second half. A shorthanded Bearcats squad was unable to retake the lead.

Binghamton started the game on the defensive, giving up two quick shots in the opening five minutes. Binghamton returned on the offensive, a free kick giving the Bearcats a close opportunity, but it was cleared by the Dolphins’ defense before the Bearcats could capitalize. Le Moyne answered with an attack the other way, but it was stopped by senior goalkeeper Natan Jemaneh Admassu.

Binghamton went on to get the first corner kick of the game in the 15th minute, but the game remained scoreless. At the 20-minute mark, on a pass from redshirt sophomore back Ryan Conti, senior forward Anthony Randazzo buried the ball into the bottom right corner of the net, giving the Bearcats the lead. Binghamton continued to threaten for the rest of the half, taking the second corner kick of the game and registering three more shots before going into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Binghamton opened fast, almost scoring a minute into the half on a long run by Conti, but the momentum quickly changed. With 35 minutes left in the game, senior back Saar Almoznino got a red card just outside the box, and Le Moyne scored the equalizer on the resulting free kick.

Despite being down one player, the Bearcats continued to fight for the game-winner for the remainder of the game. After giving up three shots, Binghamton returned on the offensive, taking a corner kick, but it went wide of the net. Le Moyne continued to press offensively, recording three more shots in the next 10 minutes, but was unable to capitalize.

Binghamton’s best chance of the half came at 81 minutes from senior midfielder Alex Balkey in the left corner, but the shot sailed over the net. The teams traded shots for the remainder of the game, but none were able to find the net.

Despite playing a man down for the final 35 minutes, the Bearcats continued to create chances late in the game. Binghamton recorded two close-range shots and drew two corner kicks and two free kicks from just outside the box during the final 10 minutes. Admassu also made a career-high seven saves to keep the Bearcats within reach of the lead.

“I thought they were unbelievably resilient in the game. To not concede a goal and to continue to create chances after we were down a player is something I was very proud of,” said head coach Tommy Moon.

The game marked the third straight game in which the Bearcats remained unbeaten, following a tie and a win in their previous two games. Binghamton will travel for a 5 p.m. match on Saturday at Hofstra’s Captains Field.
