Spring break is nearly upon us and as we all hastily finish essays and struggle to study for tests, vacation lingers in the back of our minds. A lot of people typically go away for spring break to a somewhat tropical locale, whether that be Florida or something a little south of the border, and once vacation starts, all the rules go out the window.

Spring break is legendary, the most wet and wild vacation time college students have. “Girls Gone Wild” was basically made as a result of spring break. Girls who normally would never show certain body parts in public get drunk and have wet T-shirt contests. It’s whatever though, right? I mean, doesn’t what happen in spring break stay in spring break?

I don’t think so, especially if it’s being widely distributed to the global population of horny males who own television sets.

Still, spring break may be the one time when you feel like you can break all the rules and it won’t matter. But when it comes to your sex life, you don’t know what you’re getting into — figuratively and literally.

I think one of the most useful tips is to use a buddy system, know at least one person around you when you’re partying and keep with that person. One of you just needs to be conscious enough to drag the both of you back to your room, so I’d watch whether or not I’m blackout status. I mean hey, it beats waking up in a strange place in Mexico, 50 miles from the hotel that you’re staying in.

Another thing to keep in mind is to use the typical protection you’re used to if you find yourself in bed with a stranger. Use a condom, use some spermicidal stuff, talk it out with the other person or just don’t have sex. Use your judgment or you could be facing some pretty serious consequences.

I wouldn’t want my most humiliating moment to be either contracting an STD or spawning a child from a spring break fling. I’d be more worried about that kid than I already am about Snooki’s future guido.

While spring break could be the most fun you’ve ever had in your life, at the same time, you don’t want to have something follow you around for the rest of your life because of a poor decision you made in a foreign place while you were partying.

I’m neither trying to sound like a bad sport nor trying to limit your fun; I’m just saying be careful. By all means, take a few shots, dance your butt off, live young and wild and free, have an amazing time. Just remember that since you’re in a strange place surrounded by strange people, you need to watch yourself.

So try to get through the rest of this week with visions of brighter skies and no classes in your mind and remember to party it up — without regrets.
