I may be a girl, but I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not really into all that feminist crap. Of course I commend those women who fought day and night just to allow us the right to vote, but let’s not pretend like we’re still living in the Dark Ages.

And yet, there is one cause I will stand up and fight for — one that I think us girls wish we could be more open about without scrutiny, and one that guys don’t seem to want to believe is the honest truth.

I want to fight, for the right, to have a fuck buddy.

You hear so many girls out there whining about the fact that they aren’t in a relationship. They’re depressed. No one loves them. Blah, blah, blah. In reality, there are plenty of us out there who enjoy the freedoms of single life.

I, for one, will admit that as a college senior, I’m way too selfish to want to cater to the needs of a boyfriend. But hey, I’m still down to take a casual late-night ride on the pleasure train Friday nights.

Listen up, guys. Before you put up that yellow caution tape of skepticism, if a girl is mature enough to admit she just wants to have casual sex, maybe you should take it at face value.

For instance, if I text you after 2 a.m. saying you should come over — fuck buddy. If I text you at 5 p.m. asking your plans for the night — not fuck buddy. If I literally tell you not to call me unless you plan on fucking me — fuck buddy. If I send you a vague text and it sounds like a test — not fuck buddy.

If you must sleep over and I give you half the bed or less — fuck buddy. If I’m holding on to you Titanic-style and won’t let go — not fuck buddy … and potentially emotionally unstable.

Next time you find yourself in arguably the best situation ever, and your girl is laying down the line that she just wants something chill, why not take her word for it? Or better yet, stop all the games and bullshit and open the lines of communication from the start so you’re both on the same page.

I look at the situation as a glass-half-full scenario. You both get a consistent late-night booty call with no strings attached, not to mention the freedom to still do whatever, and potentially whomever, you both want. Yay, everyone wins.

I know the one word you’re probably thinking right now — slut. And not to get all preachy and bring up the age-old argument, but why should us girls be labeled sluts just because we enjoy sex, making out or whatever we want to do, when guys get off scot-free? I call for equal opportunity!

A friend with benefits is just a person you’re consistently hooking up with, without the strains of an exclusive relationship. No need to check up on one another, be jealous, worry about feelings. That said, there should still be a mutual respect between the two of you and a clear discussion of where the boundaries of your friendship with benefits are.

And regardless of where those borders are drawn, I’d say the word “slut” seems a little harsh. Relationships aren’t for everyone and sometimes life is too stressful to want to deal with them.

So instead, let’s just relieve some of that stress when the clock strikes that magical, oh-shit-the-bars-are-now-closed hour of 3 a.m.
