For the hopelessly romantic and bloodthirsty comes a marriage of the minds of Jane Austen and Seth Graham-Smith in their captivating would-be masterpiece “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.”

It is written with all of the eloquence one has come to expect of Austen with much, much more than a touch of the humor one would expect from a 12-year-old boy. It is a piece of fiction that could have been the best novel in the world, but instead it is merely one of the better ones.

The many fans of Austen and zombies were pleased by the announcement that their two favorite topics would be at last joined together. However, it falls short of what it could have been. It is admittedly riddled with errors, both typological and narrative, and some of the lingual selections were less than stellar. Despite these shortcomings, it is an entertaining and fabulous read, both loaded with love and supernatural combat.

Some changes to Austen’s original work were more than welcome, what with her lack of revenge upon deserving characters. Graham-Smith, being a man of the 21st century, recognizes the need for justice, however gruesome, and sees to it that all deserving characters get the comeuppance that one would expect in an undead world. This will undoubtedly satisfy many readers.

The quality of the piece is akin to that of a semi-popular online fan fiction but is more than worth the read.
