More than one Binghamton University team currently has a winning streak going their way.
While they might not have the 10-game streak the men’s basketball team is currently on, the women’s tennis team has one to call their own — a three-match win streak that includes dual wins in Hartford, Conn., this past weekend.
The Bearcats (8-2, 1-0 America East) swept the University of Hartford 6-0 on their own courts. Binghamton did not drop one game to their AE opponents. Sophomores Lauren Bates and Yulia Smirnova, as well as junior Danyelle Shapiro, each beat the Hawk on the other side of the net, 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Marina Bykovskaya and Jillian Santos followed in the footsteps of their veteran teammates.
Binghamton also swept Hartford in doubles play, ironically all with the same score, 8-1. The doubles teams include Santos and Bates, Smirnova and Bykovskaya, and the freshmen duo of Yagmur Gone and Emma Leibowicz.
Following their dominance against the Hawks, Binghamton continued their impressive streak with a 6-1 win over the University of Rhode Island.
This time around the Bearcats won five of their six singles matches, including wins from Bates, Santos, Smirnova, Gone and Shapiro.
Back in doubles action, Santos and Bates beat their Rams opponents, 8-5. Gone and Leibowicz echoed with another 8-5 win for the Bearcats, while Smirnova and Bykovskaya captured a win as well.
The Bearcats are back in action on Sunday, March 22, at 10 a.m. when they travel to Quinnipiac.
