The Binghamton University women’s lacrosse team was efficient, but still unable to overcome the No. 6-ranked Syracuse Orange on Tuesday.

The Bearcats (2-3) fell 22-8 while connecting on eight of nine shots. Binghamton’s largest problem was turnovers: They committed 22, double the Orange’s total.

“Our offense is playing pretty well,” said BU head coach Tony Zostant. “Our defense played pretty well … we just had way too many turnovers within the thirties.”

The Bearcats turned the ball over 17 times in the first half alone. Zostant looked at the match as a learning experience for his young team, considering the Orange’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association ranking.

“The key is getting better and especially not making the same mistakes,” he said.

Zostant continues to switch up his goalkeepers, between Lauren Scott and Sandra Alvarez. Zostant said he has been switching the two to spark the team and that neither has been playing to her full potential. Scott has two wins on the season but has not started since the season opener, a 21-9 loss to host William and Mary on Feb. 17.

The Bearcats are scheduled to play next at Monmouth at noon on Sunday.
