A campus-wide power outage left Binghamton University in darkness for an hour and a half Sunday night.

According to Physical Facilities spokeswoman Karen Fennie, a tree broke during a windstorm and landed on a wire leading to BU, cutting off the flow of electricity.

“In the windstorm, a tree came down on one of the lines feeding power to campus,” Fennie said.

The power was out from about 11 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. yesterday, and New York State Electric and Gas repaired the problem.

The SUNY-wide alert system BU switched to this semester was not utilized by the University because after speaking with NYSEG, it was determined that power would return “pretty quickly,” and it was deemed unnecessary, said Ryan Yarosh, University spokesman.
