With Drake tickets completely sold out, some people may be wondering what to expect from such a coveted performer.
Aubrey Drake Graham, now known as Drake, started his career in the television industry. In 2001, he began playing Jimmy Brooks on ‘Degrassi: The Next Generation.’ This role spanned eight years, until his character graduated from Degrassi High School.
During Drake’s stint on ‘Degrassi,’ he released several mixtapes, which caught the attention of rapper Lil Wayne. Wayne quickly took on the role of Drake’s mentor until he officially signed him in June 2009 to his label, Young Money Entertainment. ‘So Far Gone,’ Drake’s third official mixtape, received a lot of positive attention from the underground scene when it was released early in 2009, and eventually made its way to the radio. Two of the singles on the mixtape, ‘Best I Ever Had’ and ‘Successful,’ did so well that the mixtape was released as an EP.
The EP was followed up by a string of hits, which would be featured on his debut album, including ‘Over,’ ‘Find Your Love’ and ‘Miss Me.’ Drake’s ‘Thank Me Later’ album was released in June 2010 and sold 447,000 copies in the first week. That same week, the album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and solidified Drake’s spot as one of the top artists of the year.
Since Drake skyrocketed to fame, he has worked with some of the top guys in the industry, such as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Eminem, Mary J. Blige and Dr. Dre. He also performed at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards where he was also acknowledged with two nominations. Drake kicked off his ‘Light Dreams and Nightmares’ tour on Sept. 20, and will make a stop at the Binghamton University Events Center today with hip-hop artist Tyga, also on the Young Money Entertainment label.
So, what can we expect from Drake’s performance? All signs point to great things.
