Class council application deadline extended

The deadline for applications for class council executive board positions has been extended to Friday, according to Jared Kirschenbaum, Student Association executive vice president. The SA is accepting applications for positions on the sophomore, junior and senior class councils. The deadlines were originally last Friday. More information on how to apply is available at sa.binghamton.edu.

Mountainview carpooling program to reduce carbon footprint

The SA has been working on implementing a carpooling program in the parking lot behind Mountainview College, Kirschenbaum said. Details have not yet been finalized, but the program would allow drivers to park on campus for free if they bring two or three other passengers with them. According to Kirschenbaum, the program would result in fewer cars on campus, more free spaces for commuters and a lower carbon footprint for the University. He said he has been working with Peter Napolitano, the director of auxiliary services, to implement the program, which would also be open to professors.

Center could help new groups get off the ground

Kirschenbaum said that the SA has also been working to start up a Student Activity Center for the next academic year. The center would be a resource for student groups. Its professional staff would assist groups with planning, executive board training, public speaking and other elements of running a student group. The center would be a partnership between the SA and Campus Life and, according to Kirschenbaum, would be especially useful to leaders of newly-formed student groups looking to expand their groups more quickly.
