If you’ve been looking for a change from the ordinary co-rec games and Late Nite antics, you might want to think about participating in this week’s homecoming and Campus Wars.

The week was kicked off last Sunday night by hip-hop sensation Lupe Fiasco.

“The students’ response to the concert has been overwhelmingly positive,” Student Association Vice President for Programming Aaron Butler said. “I’m happy we bring things to campus that the students like.”

According to Butler, tickets for the show, which also featured local Binghamton University band Soundhouse, sold out.

SA President Matt Landau commended Butler’s work in bringing the concert to campus.

“I thought that Aaron Butler, Meghan Wdowski and the rest of the SA programming board did a great job,” Landau said.

But Lupe isn’t the only big event to hit campus this week. Homecoming, alumni weekend and campus wars are still ahead.

Between the third annual Campus Wars and homecoming, the SA scheduled an event every day for seven consecutive days this week. The week kicked off Saturday afternoon with co-rec football and will finish up with the parade on Saturday at 3 p.m.

According to Butler, this year’s homecoming theme is TV game shows.

“The decision on the theme took a lot of input from different organizations on campus,” Butler said.

“The past two years it’s been successful and every year we try to come up with more creative ideas,” Landau said.

Students earned points for their residential communities in Campus Wars by participating in a recreation of “Deal or No Deal” Monday night, “Family Feud” on Tuesday and “Jeopardy” Wednesday.

Last night, students crowded into the Anderson Center to see porn star Ron Jeremy in “The Great Porn Debate.”

Tonight students will “Yell Like Hell” in the Susquehanna Room at 6 p.m. and have a chance to see Late Nite Madness in the Events Center at 8 p.m.

During this evening’s event, students will be asked to come up with a chant or song that represents their community as well as the game show theme.

According to Butler, Late Nite Madness will feature a trampoline show, giveaways and raffles for students.

The event is sponsored by the BU athletics alumni and the Student Association, among others.

Homecoming doesn’t end tonight with the Madness — there is a variety of events scheduled for tomorrow, including a parade featuring floats made by the different residential communities. The parade will be held in Parking Lot M at 3 p.m.

“Tailgate ‘08” is another event taking place on Saturday. The event begins at 4 p.m. in the Events Center at Parking Lot F. The tailgate will be a big outdoor cookout with a festive atmosphere. Concessions will be available as well.

“The tailgate presents a wonderful opportunity for alumni to get together with classmates and make new friends,” Steve Seepersaud, alumni communications specialist for BU, said.

The event is open to alumni, students, faculty and staff members as well as members of the Binghamton community, Seepersaud said.

A beer tent will be featured at the tailgate.

“The tent is being presented for the first time in recent memory,” Butler said.

The tailgate will precede a men’s soccer game, featuring the Bearcats and the Vermont Catamounts, at the Bearcats Sports Complex at 7 p.m. The event will be televised and students attending are asked to wear white.

Fireworks, which will begin after the game, cap off this strand of events Saturday night after homecoming.

Butler said he believed the events on campus will be fun and encourages all students to attend.

“It’s an event-filled week filled with a little something for everyone,” he said.
