Frank Warren, author of the PostSecret blog that makes him “the most trusted stranger in America,” is coming to Binghamton University as part of the Homecoming 2009 weekend events.
Sponsored by Student Assembly Programming Board (SAPB), Late Nite and Hillel, the event will be held on Friday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. in the Anderson Center, according to Aaron Cohn, the vice president for programming at BU.
Warren is currently touring the United States promoting the Oct. 6 release of his fifth book involving PostSecret, titled “Confessions on Life, Death and God.”
According to a press release from BU’s Office of University Communications and Marketing, the PostSecret blog was created in 2005 and is a place where “individuals across the globe send Warren anonymous postcards with their most sacred, soulful secrets. The cards are often crafted in an artful manner, adding additional meaning to their messages.”
Tickets, which are free for undergraduates and $10 for the general public, went on sale on Tuesday, Sept. 22 and are sold on a first come, first serve basis from the Sudent Association Box Office, according to Cohn.
Cohn also said that after Warren’s presentation regarding his new book, there will be a question-and-answer session, and then a book signing where copies of Warren’s fourth book, “A Lifetime of Secrets,” will be available for purchase.
One portion of Warren’s presentation will be Frank Warren himself revealing a secret of his own to the audience that he has not shared for 30 years, Cohn said, which deals with his inspiration in starting the PostSecret blog.
“[Warren is a] unique lecturer who [will] appeal to students, faculty and the community,” Cohn said.
According to Cohn, the SAPB was looking to have this type of event for Homecoming weekend.
“We were hoping for an event during Homecoming weekend because Third Eye Blind and Kid Cudi wouldn’t be performing at that time,” he said.
Tameka Baber, the insights chair of SAPB, is pairing with Hillel for another aspect of Frank Warren’s presentation.
According to Baber, there will be an event during the course of Homecoming week where Binghamton University students will have an opportunity to send in their own secrets anonymously and have them displayed as a presentation.
“[The event will] give students an opportunity to get involved,” she said. “It can also give students an outlet to share something that is on their mind.”
Baber feels that “everyone will be satisfied and no one will be excluded” because Frank Warren is very determined to accommodate.
