SATURDAY, Oct. 3, 11:58 a.m. — Officers on patrol came upon a 19-year-old male student and a 23-year-old male non-student outside of Science 1 holding brown paper bags with bottles sticking out, said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of Binghamton’s New York State University Police. When the two males saw the police, they attempted to hide behind a bush. The officers identified both males and also discovered a female who did not have any alcohol. The police could smell alcohol on the breath of each of the males, although they did not appear to be intoxicated. They admitted to drinking, and the older male said he had bought the alcohol — four bottles of sparkling wine — for himself and the student. Both men were arrested and issued appearance tickets for Thursday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

SATURDAY, Oct. 3, 10:55 p.m. — Officers stood by the Old University Union bus stop watching a large group trying to board a blue bus when an argument broke out, Bush said. According to the bus monitor, he had asked people who were going home to get on the bus first, and as he turned around, an 18-year-old male student tried to sneak on. The two began to argue and “became agitated.” When it seemed like a fight would ensue, the officers broke it up. They spoke with the student and determined that he lived on campus and was going to a party. The officers smelled alcohol on his breath, although the student denied it. They gave the student the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, which proved that he had, in fact, been drinking. The student remained uncooperative and was referred to the Office of Student Conduct.

SUNDAY, Oct. 4, 3:47 a.m. — Officers responded to a report of disorderly conduct from a University Downtown Center guard, Bush said. The guard told officers that three students, a 19-year-old male, a 20-year-old male and a 21-year-old male, had been “abusing” the gate booth in the parking lot. When the police checked the booth, they found the arm snapped off. Upon further examination, they found and detained the three students on the river walk. While one officer questioned the students, the other officer reviewed footage of the parking lot. The students told officers that they had been “dancing in the lot.” After looking at the footage, the officers determined that they had been performing “embarrassing gestures” on the card reader and the arm, though the arm had already been off before the students had arrived at the booth. The students had been kicking and making “obscene gestures” with the booth. The students were referred to the Office of Student Conduct.
