FRIDAY, OCT 15, 1:41 a.m. ‘ After a 38-year-old male cab driver picked up two male students from Downtown and brought them to the University information booth, the students fled without having paid their fee, said Investigator Matthew C. Rossie of Binghamton’s New York State University Police. One of the students, an 18-year-old male, provided his University ID card in order to gain entry to campus, but after doing so he and an unidentified male student ran out of the taxi and fled into the wooded area nearby. The cab driver called University Police who, using the student’s ID card, identified the student and tracked him down to his room. Several roommates answered, but the suspect was not located. The cab driver asked for criminal action to be taken against the suspects, and investigation is pending.

FRIDAY, OCT 15, 3:43 a.m. ‘ Patrolling officers observed a 22-year-old female student exit a taxi at Dickinson Community and fall to the ground, Rossie said. She could not get up on her own, and vomited. The female student was not initially coherent, but soon told officers that she had been Downtown drinking at Tom & Marty’s on State Street. Officers called Harpur’s Ferry, and the female student was transported to Binghamton General Hospital.

FRIDAY, OCT 15, 11:18 p.m. ‘ Officers responded to a report of a marijuana smell in Newing College’s Endicott Hall, Rossie said. Officers determined where the smell was coming from and knocked on the door, after which three students answered. Although they initially claimed to have not been smoking or to be in possession of any illicit substances, the officers pointed out a small clear bag containing a green leafy substance in plain view on the suspects’ floor, and asked for consent to search the room. The suspects explained that they could not give written consent to a search because it was the Sabbath, so they opted instead to give verbal search consent. Police found another similar bag after searching the room, and destroyed both. All three students have been referred to the Office of Student Conduct.

SATURDAY, OCT 16, 2:46 a.m. ‘ While patrolling near the West Drive bus stop, an officer observed two 19-year-old male students exiting a bus hurriedly when one began chasing the other in a menacing manner, Rossie said. The officer caught up to and stopped the two students. Upon asking what they were doing, the two explained that they ‘had words’ on the bus. The suspect ‘had enough’ and, when the bus stopped, proceeded to chase the victim. Neither mentioned what specifically they had been arguing about. The officer separated the two and no further action was taken.

SATURDAY, Oct 16, 3:20 a.m. ‘ Patrol was flagged down by an All Star Taxi driver who, when approached by officers, stated that he had a student in his taxi who was refusing to leave, Rossie said. The suspect was belligerent when officers spoke to him, and proceeded to shout obscenities as they tried to calm him down. When the officers asked the suspect why he refused to leave, he explained that the cab driver had promised to pick his brother up from Downtown. He claimed that his brother was unfamiliar with the Binghamton area and had no money on him, and would not be able to return to campus on his own. A short time later the officers were able to convince the suspect to leave, where they provided him transport back to his residence hall to await further communication with his brother.
