FRIDAY, April 9, 1:04 a.m. — A group of about 50 individuals followed a resident into Dickinson Community’s Johnson Hall, said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of Binghamton’s New York State University Police. The group was from the Juvenile Urban Multicultural Program (JUMP Nation), who tabled in the New University Union earlier that day. Police arrived, but could not find anyone from JUMP Nation who was a resident in Johnson Hall and ordered the group to disperse. All of them complied, and no arrests or charges were made.
SATURDAY, April 10, 4:10 a.m. — A taxi operator flagged down a patrol car on Bartle Drive, the entrance road to campus, when a 19-year-old female reported harassment by a 20-year-old male, Bush said. Patrol spoke to the victim, who informed them that a group of males had been verbally derogatory toward her. When she told one of them off, he reportedly grabbed her wrist and twisted it backwards. Upon having seen patrol approaching, the group of males fled into the woods on the edge of the drive. Officers did a sweep and found them soon thereafter. They brought the suspect back to the victim to confirm his identity, but she recanted her previous statement, saying she could not remember which one of the males had touched her. The suspect’s older brother, however, reportedly outright stated that his brother touched the victim, but the victim preferred that no action be taken.
SUNDAY, April 11, 4:55 a.m. — An 18-year-old female student reported harassment by her 18-year-old roommate in Hinman College’s Cleveland Hall, Bush said. The victim reported ongoing harassment since the beginning of the year, culminating with her roommate striking her with a crew paddle in their suite. Although the victim did not intend to have charges pressed against her roommate, she wished to have the case documented in case further incidents arise. No action has yet been taken against the suspect.
