Here’s how past winners of Pipe Dream’s Female Rookie of the Year have fared since winning the award.

2005: Jacki Kane, volleyball: The senior middle blocker, and likely finalist for 2008 Player of the Year, wrapped up her BU career in stellar fashion by being named the America East Volleyball Scholar Athlete and finishing ranked 14th in the nation in blocks. Kane appeared in 120 games and led the Bearcats to the playoffs for the fourth time in her career. Aside from always making the playoffs, Kane was a major player on the 2006 BU team that won the AE Championship.

2006: Katie Radzik, cross country: Radzik’s record-breaking career was put on hold in 2008 thanks to some injuries and the spring semester spent abroad. But even after two seasons it’s clear she’s a special talent. Radzik also took home the Binghamton athletic department’s award for Female Athlete of the Year in 2005 and 2006.

2007: Nicole Montoya, soccer: The defender started 15 games this season, providing some stability to a BU back line that was playing in front of a new goalie for the first time in four years. Montoya was one of six Bearcats to score penalty kick goals at the end of the AE Quarterfinals, to help sixth-seeded Binghamton upset No. 3 Hartford, and make the second round for the first time since 2005.
