Bill O’Reilly loves black people. Well, actually, I wouldn’t go that far. But at the very least, after last week’s dinner Bill-O does have a ‘better’ understanding of black culture.

On Sept. 19, on his nationally syndicated radio show, O’Reilly discussed his recent visit to a restaurant in Harlem called Sylvia’s.

Sylvia’s ‘ owned by Sylvia Woods ‘ was first opened in 1962, and since then has gained recognition for great food and a historic atmosphere. So naturally, when O’Reilly discussed his visit, he mentioned how the atmosphere of this historic establishment affected him.

Specifically, O’Reilly said that he ‘couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City ‘ even though it’s run by blacks.’

Odd. That’s not quite the learning experience I’d get out of visiting Sylvia’s. But do tell, Bill, what surprised you so much about this restaurant run by blacks.

‘There wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, ‘Motherfucker, I want more iced tea,’ explained O’Reilly. When asked to comment, a patron at the restaurant exclaimed, ‘Sorry, Bill, we were all too busy eating fried chicken and watermelon, but next time you come, the iced tea is on the house.’ (There was never really a patron, but you get what I’m driving at).

What is shocking about this story is not the idiocy or racism that O’Reilly displayed through his comments ‘ we all knew the guy is a moron ‘ but that he wasn’t pulled off the air immediately the way Don Imus was. While some argued that Imus’s comments were not racially motivated and that the man was simply making a joke, everyone but Fox News is in agreement that O’Reilly is a racist donkey. Yet his hate speech will continue to go uninterrupted as he offends more and more Americans.

And unlike Imus, this wasn’t the first time O’Reilly’s racist views were made public.

On the Aug. 16, 2006 edition of ‘The O’Reilly Factor,’ O’Reilly argued extensively for ‘profiling of Muslims’ at airports, arguing that detaining all ‘Muslims between the ages of 16 and 45’ for questioning ‘isn’t racial profiling,’ but ‘criminal profiling.’

Sadly, O’Reilly doesn’t even understand why media networks like CNN and NBC call these remarks racist. To O’Reilly, being called out on hateful, racist remarks is simply the work of the ‘thought police’ that is trying to control free speech.

It’s worth pointing out that although this was most likely the first time O’Reilly had interacted with blacks at all, the black community had long ago established an opinion on O’Reilly. Not surprisingly their view corresponds to that of any other educated person. To see what I mean, simply pick up Chamillionaire’s new album ‘Ultimate Victory.’ In the song ‘The Morning News,’ Chamillionaire writes, ‘Bill O’Reilly’s an idiot, he ain’t the only one with an opinion fool.’

Originally O’Reilly wanted to respond to the above lyrics through a tirade on ‘The O’Reilly Factor,’ but is currently recovering from the shock of learning that black Americans can read and write.
