Mario’s Pizza is another great place to satisfy nighttime cravings for comfort food. Located in University Plaza, Mario’s offers a wide selection of Italian food to students coming back to campus in the early morning hours. The restaurant, which also offers free delivery, has recently extended its hours in order to cater to the late-night demands of SUNY students.

“We thought there was a call for it,” said Connie Gillenwalters, who has owned Mario’s Pizza with her husband for 25 years. “There are a few places that deliver to campus late at night. We are located so near the campus, we thought it would be a good idea to service the students.”

Mario’s now delivers until 2 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Mario’s is owned and operated by native Long Islanders, so the pizza is New York style and, for many students, may taste a little like home. But if pizza is not quite enough to placate your hunger, Mario’s has a huge menu. Entrees like veal Parmesan and shrimp marinara come complete with a salad and garlic knots. You can also get specialty pastas like penne a la vodka , stuffed shells and spinach alfredo ravioli, as well as calzones, hot and cold subs or even fried calamari.

“Their meatball pizzas are amazing, and they’re even better after a night of being out,” Brendan Kerrigan, a senior computer engineering major, said.
