If you are planning on sticking around Binghamton this summer, get ready to come out during the month of June. The Binghamton Pride Coalition has a wide variety of events planned this coming summer to celebrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
Although it is not officially “gay pride” month, June is a popular time for communities all across the country to host pride events.
Check out these events that are happening right here in Binghamton:
Pride Flag Raising — The pride flag will be raised Friday, June 6, at noon Downtown in front of Binghamton City Hall.
Family Pride Picnic — Families will come together on Sunday, June 8, from 3 to 5 p.m. in Otsiningo Park to share a meal.
Pride Palooza — On Sunday, June 14, from noon to 4 p.m., this festival will take place at the Parlor City Commons between State Street and Washington Street. There will be tabling and speakers from the local community, as well as an abundance of food, including popcorn, burgers, hot dogs and snow cones. Entertainment will be provided from musicians and solo performers. There will also be a raffle.
Merlin’s 4th Annual Pride Dance — Dance and celebrate on Saturday, June 14, at 10:30 p.m. at Merlin’s on State Street.
Metropolitan Community Church Pride Service — On Sunday, June 15, at 10 a.m. the church will have a special outreach to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The church is located at 83 Main St.
Not going to be in Binghamton this summer? Don’t worry, you can celebrate your pride elsewhere. Pride events are taking place in New York City from June 22 to 29. Elmira and Syracuse are both holding pride festivals on June 14.
