Ingrid Michaelson at a glance
Some influences: Regina Spektor, Death Cab for Cutie, Fiona Apple.
Why she’s awesome: Michaelson will be donating a portion of her proceeds from the sale of her new CD, “Be OK,” to Stand Up To Cancer, a new initiative to fight cancer. The CD will feature acoustic covers, live songs and the new single “Be OK,” and will be accompanied with a fall tour.
On her sound: “I think that I write lyrics that are kind of smarter with a darker eye in terms of lyrical writing. I just try to have a really great melody with it, something that sort of moves you without lyrics and with lyrics moves you even more. I think the lyrics and the melody stand up on their own individually and, put together, they’re a mighty force, so it’s sort of how I try and go about things. Quirky, smart, folk, indie, pop, rock. Something along those lines.”
