On the strength of Cody Germain’s career-high two goals the Binghamton men’s soccer team took home its first victory of the season Sunday, besting Long Island, 4-3.

“It’ll be a long bus ride home if we don’t get a victory tomorrow,” said Coach Paul Marco before Sunday’s play.

Fortunately that long ride was averted, when Germain netted the game-winner off of a corner kick from Peter Sgueglia with 2:32 remaining in regulation, breaking a 3-3 tie.

Binghamton (1-3-1) started well out of the gate, scoring twice in the first fifteen minutes. Long Island (1-2-0), however, would storm back to tie the game with three goals that went unanswered until the 78:27 mark, when junior back Adam Chavez tied the game with a header, setting the stage for Germain’s heroic shot.

With the victory, the Bearcats split their weekend matches at the adidas/Hypertherm Classic after falling to Dartmouth 2-0 on Friday.
