A 19-year-old former Binghamton University student was found dead Tuesday morning in his hometown of Saratoga Springs, the Times Union of Albany reported yesterday.

A woman walking two dogs found Alexander Carsky-Bush on a trail in Saratoga Spa State Park’s dog park.

Carsky-Bush apparently died from a prescription medication overdose, according to a statement from the Saratoga County district attorney. But the cause will be listed as “pending toxicology results” until blood tests results are available. That determination was made Wednesday, after an autopsy by a state police forensic pathologist.

Carsky-Bush attended BU for only spring semester 2008, a University spokeswoman told Pipe Dream. She did not say why he left the school.

In a statement on Facebook, the Carsky-Bush family thanked friends, neighbors and family for support and prayers.

“Alex had been suffering from depression and was receiving the necessary treatment and attention to aid him with his mental illness,” the statement said. “We, as a family, truly understand the difficult struggle depression can be and encourage everyone to reach out and seek the proper help and assistance as early as possible. No one person should feel they are alone and only by seeking and receiving help can we move forward through life together.”
