It’s finally here! The new fall TV season is upon us and it’ll give you many reasons to procrastinate on your schoolwork this semester. Release offers you a weekly guide to some of the new shows, as well as the returning shows that we’ve been missing since last May.

Mondays

“House” — 8 p.m. on FOX

Last time we saw House, he was checking himself into a mental institution. The sixth-season opener will see House causing mayhem inside Mayfield Psychiatric Hospital. Also, this season will see House’s original team — Chase, Cameron and Foreman — reunite and there’s a chance those “Huddy” fantasies that House has been having last season might become a reality.

“Gossip Girl” — 9 p.m. on The CW

After graduating from high school Serena left to find her MIA dad, and this season she’ll probably find a new beau. This season, “Privileged’s” Joanna Garcia will serve as a love interest for Nate, Hilary Duff will guest star as an actress trying to live a normal life while rooming with Vanessa, and Michelle Trachtenberg will return for three episodes as Georgina Sparks.

“The Big Bang Theory” — 9:30 p.m. on CBS

After being cooped up in the Artic for three months, Leonard, Howard and Raj managed to survive with bossy and neurotic Sheldon. Returning home, Leonard and Penny admit to each other their true feelings for one another and get it on. As for Howard and Raj, they’ll be pursuing some Goth chicks. And as for Sheldon, his love is still for science. Also, Laurie Metcalf (of “Roseanne” fame) returns again as Sheldon’s mother and Lewis Black guest stars as a professor.

Tuesdays

“90210” — 8 p.m. on The CW

Annie will be going through a lot this season after running over someone with her car in last season’s finale. You’ll find out who she hit in the first episode, but with Dustin Milligan’s character Ethan bowing out, chances are Annie hit Ethan.

“NCIS: Los Angeles” — 9 p.m. on CBS

Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J head the NCIS spin-off. It’ll be less of an ensemble piece and more of a buddy show centered on the two male leads. Rocky Carroll and Pauley Perrette from NCIS will make crossover appearances to give the show a running start.

Wednesdays

“Glee” — 9 p.m. on FOX

Are you a gleek? If not, you should be. “Glee,” which follows the lives of McKinley High’s glee club and their teachers, is freshly original and bound to get you singing and dancing along with them. If you saw the post- “American Idol” pilot, you know what we’re talking about. Their show-stopping performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” will give you goosebumps.

“Cougar Town” — 9:30 p.m. on ABC

Courteney Cox plays Jules Cobb, your not-so-typical TV mom. Plain and simple, she’s a MILF. After being divorced and supporting a 17-year-old son, she decides to go back into the dating scene. From Bill Lawrence, the creator of “Scrubs,” this show has this former Friend dealing with men of all ages while getting older at the same time.

Thursdays

“FlashFoward” — 8 p.m. on ABC

“FlashForward” could be ABC’s next “Lost.” The premise is that on an ordinary day in Los Angeles, an unknown surge causes every person on Earth to black out for two minutes and 17 seconds where they get a glimpse of their futures at 10 p.m. on April 29, 2010. Joseph Feinnes and John Cho play FBI agents investigating what caused the event and if their visions will turn out to become reality. Also look out for Dominic Monaghan, formerly Charlie from “Lost,” to show up later in the season.

“Grey’s Anatomy” — 9 p.m. on ABC

“Grey’s Anatomy’s” biggest summer cliffhanger happened off screen. The question was whether or not George and Izzie were coming back because of T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl’s very public displeasure with their characters’ developments. However, after much speculation, Izzie will be back, while Meredith will be MIA for several episodes due to her real-life pregnancy.

“The Office” — 9 p.m. on NBC

Pam is preggers! But Pam and Jim will be keeping that from Michael because it’s Michael Scott they’re dealing with. On the fourth episode of the season we’ll most likely see Jim and Pam tie the knot at Niagara Falls since they hope nobody from the office will come, but most likely everybody from the office will crash the wedding. This season will see Andy hitting on Erin, the new receptionist, but he’ll also be questioning his sexuality.

“Community” — 9:30 p.m. on NBC

“The Soup’s” Joel McHale stars as Jeff Winger, a DUI lawyer forced to attend community college because he didn’t have a proper bachelor’s degree, and if he doesn’t get a real one he’ll be banned from the state bar for life. While at community college, he forms a study group, which includes the woman of his dreams (Gillian Jacobs) and a moist-towelettes mogul and entrepreneur (Chevy Chase).

Fridays

“Smallville” — 8 p.m. on The CW

In the show’s ninth season, Clark will face his future adversary, Major Zod, a fellow survivor from Krypton. Lois and Clark will also get some obstacles thrown in their way as their budding relationship draws closer.

“Dollhouse” — 9 p.m. on FOX

After finding its footing and getting a last-minute pickup for a second season, creator Joss Whedon’s “Dollhouse” returns with Echo, whose real name is Caroline, beginning to get a sense of who Caroline was, who the rest of the dolls are and how she can help them. Fellow Whedon-verse alumni, such as Summer Glau (“Firefly”), Felicia Day (“Buffy”) and Alexis Denisof (“Angel”), also pay a visit to the Dollhouse.
