Despite thick grass and uneven playing grounds, Binghamton University’s club field hockey proved that hat tricks can come late in a game.
During an early October visit to the University at Buffalo, BU maintained their undefeated record as they beat Buffalo 3-1.
BU struggled in the first half to maintain possession as Buffalo managed to keep the ball on their offensive end. At halftime, Buffalo led 1-0.
During the second half, BU senior midfielder Dom Young connected with the ball on three separate occasions, to give Binghamton the 3-1 lead that would last for the remainder of the game.
Senior goalie Catherine Sullivan recorded several saves throughout the game.
The next day, Binghamton hosted the University of Vermont. UVM scored first with less than 10 minutes left in the first half.
Five minutes into the second half, Young tied it up at 1-1. With the end of regulation, the teams entered sudden death where Young scored her second goal of the game. Binghamton won 2-1.
BU takes on Hobart and William Smith Colleges on Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. on the track field behind the East Gym.
