BINGHAM HALL

Construction of the new New College Bingham Hall is expected to be finished over the summer and in time for the fall semester, according to Physical Facilities spokeswoman Karen Fennie.

The building is the first in the East Campus Housing project, which will eventually replace the current Newing and Dickinson Communities.

“The new Bingham will be doubles with semi-private baths as well as communal bathrooms,” Fennie said. “The other new resident hall buildings in Newing and Dickinson will have a variety of room types including doubles and suites based on feedback we got from students.”

NEWING DINING HALL

The Binghamton University also plans to tear down Newing Dining Hall this summer, forcing Newing residents to find alternative dining options until the new one, which will serve Newing and Dickinson, is completed in 2011.

Fennie said bad congestion at the other dining halls was not expected — there weren’t any problems when Hinman Dining Hall was closed for renovations five years ago.

According to Fennie, the contract for the project hasn’t been awarded yet, but construction is expected to begin toward the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

BROOME HALL

Broome Hall’s completion in 2011 will conclude the overall renovation of Newing College, according to the Physical Facilities Web site.

SCIENCE V

Science V will be located between Science III and Science IV, and is also scheduled for completion in 2011. According to Fennie, construction is focused on removing the plaza deck between the two buildings.

OLD UNIVERSITY UNION

Old University Union renovation is continuing as scheduled and should be completed in August, according to the Physical Facilities Web site.

“Work includes new ceilings, lighting, finishes, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, new power distribution, sprinklers and smoke detectors,” the Web site said. “A skylight will be installed in the Tillman Lobby, a new waiting area enclosure will be constructed for bus users and a number of multi-purpose rooms will be created as a result of the project.”
