COURT STREET BRIDGE CLOSES FOR DAY

Today the Court Street Bridge will be closed off to vehicles from both directions so it can be re-paved, according to Binghamton City Mayor Matt Ryan. City officials expect both lanes will be usable by Nov. 17. Commuters should plan accordingly.

EXPANDED STREET PARKING BEGINS DEC. 1

The City of Binghamton’s “Park for Tomorrow” plan does not begin until Dec. 1, said city Mayor Matt Ryan, as a reminder to residents, despite incorrect signs reflecting old policies. The plan was originally scheduled to begin on Nov. 1, allowing commuters to park on the opposite sides of the street in accordance to the next day’s date, (on even dates motorists park on the even side of the road and vice versa for odd dates) until an October City Council meeting changed the dates of the plan.

HIV/AIDS SPEAKER VISITS BU

This Saturday, Nov. 4, the religious group Three Angels Message will host a presentation on the effects of HIV and AIDS on society. The speaker, Gary Graham of SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, will discuss his topic in “Straight Talk: HIV/AIDS and its Effects of Humankind” in Old University Union Room 133 at 5 p.m. The event is sponsored by the the African Student Organization, the Asian Student Union, the Philippine American League, Sigma Alpha Lambda and the Caribbean Student Association, among others.

INTERNET EXPLORER 7 COMES TO BU

Computing Services announced that Internet Explorer 7 distribution will begin early this month. The updates will occur automatically through Microsoft, but only on computers with Windows XP. This edition of Internet Explorer will be similar to the old version, with slight differences like the use of tabs, more efficient printing and better overall security.

BINGE DRINKING PRESENTATION THIS SUNDAY

Daniel Tratt, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, will talk to students about his personal experience with binge drinking in an incident which almost resulted in his death. After years of recovery, Tratt received his master’s degree in education from Mercy College and is now teaching at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, where he coaches football and participates in motivational speaking. The program begins at 6 p.m. and will take place in the Mandela Room in the Old Union. Both the Chabad House Jewish Student Center and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs are sponsoring the event.
