Four seniors and a freshman walk into a newspaper, then they all get nominated for Pipe Dream’s Female Rookie of the Year. Five enter but only one can join the illustrious ranks of past champions.

Anna Edelman, tennis: Already one half of Pipe Dream’s Female Rookie of the Year, with her doubles partner Lauren Bates, Edelman has had one of the most successful freshman seasons in school history. Playing in the No. 1 spot for the Bearcats, the Great Neck, N.Y., native finished 24-7 in singles play and, with Bates, was ranked 15th in the country for their 28-3 doubles record. Edelman recieved the icing on the cake of her stellar freshman season Thursday, when she was named AE Rookie of the Year.

Jacki Kane, volleyball: The former Pipe Dream Rookie of the Year will leave BU as one of the most recognizable female athletes in Binghamton history. The senior middle blocker from Centennial, Colo. finished the season ranked 14th in the nation with 1.55 blocks per game and was named the America East Scholar Athlete for Volleyball and a first-team all-conference player for the third straight season. Thanks to Kane, the Bearcats easily led the AE in blocks, averaging nearly half a block more per game then their nearest opponent.

Laine Kurpniece, basketball: The center from Riga, Latvia, finished fifth in the America East with 12.8 points per game and ninth in the conference with 5.6 rebounds per game. Those stats, plus her dominating inside game, led Kurpniece to be named First Team All-Conference, the third straight season she made an all-conference team. The center will leave the school as the all-time leader in field goal percentage, and just to prove you can’t play hack-a-Kurp, fifth in school history in free throw percentage.

Leanne Musso, lacrosse: While her team set records for wins in a season, the senior from Auburn, N.Y. was busy setting individual records of her own. In her final collegiate game, the midfielder recorded nine points, tying a school record for most points in a game, while the Bearcats rolled past Wagner for a record fifth win. The points also allowed Musso to surpass former teammate Heather Grose as the school’s all-time leader in career goals. Always the clutch performer, Musso also finished tied for fourth in the AE in game-winning goals.

Danielle White, soccer: Granted a fifth-year of eligibility, the forward from Haddon Township, N.J. made the most of it pairing a team-best six goals with three assists. White finished third in the America East and fourth in the conference in points per game. The former AE All-Rookie selection will leave BU with a storied career, having taken home an America East Championship and several top 10 scoring finishes.
