Whether you had too many glasses of wine with your valentine, or too many shots with your buddies trying to drink the day away, the day after Valentine’s Day can be a little bit painful, to say the least.
But instead of partaking in the usual college remedy, which generally consists of just lying in bed and praying that the room stops spinning, there are some things you can do to be proactive in easing your suffering.
1. Watch “The Hangover”
No matter how debilitated you might be feeling, it can’t be half as bad as waking up and finding out that you pulled out your tooth the previous night.
2. Go to Bagel Factory
God may have very well created this place for the sole purpose of nourishing us back to health. The home fries and brownies are, quite possibly, the closest thing we have to a hangover cure.
3. Drink orange juice
Actually, this one is a scientific fact. The fructose in orange juice assists in remedying the effects of alcohol withdrawal.
4. Take a shower
Personal hygiene may be low on the list of worries when you’re just trying to keep your head out of the toilet, but this small accomplishment is the first step to actually being productive.
5. Go to the gym
Sweat out that excess alcohol and your hangover.
6. Don’t take the bus
Nothing is worse for a hangover than churning up the remnants of last night’s alcohol consumption.
7. Take preemptive measures
Homemade food can make the next morning a bit easier, but wielding knives and turning on a gas stove can be a little dangerous when you can barely stand up, so prepare food before leaving for the night. That way when you get home, all you have to do is warm it up.
8. Keep hydrated
Leave a bottle of water by your bed before you leave for the night — it’s easy to forget to drink water when you stumble in at four in the morning. Stocking up on electrolytes the next morning by pounding that Gatorade also helps, a lot.
9. Put down the coffee!
While you may think that a kick of caffeine will be the perfect thing for your fatigue, it actually dehydrates you more and worsens the side effects you’re trying to get rid of. And while you’re at it, avoid dairy, too.
9. Drink a Bloody Mary
When all else fails, this breakfast of champions should take the edge off the pounding in your head.
