The Binghamton Police Department is currently in possession of the package that Jiverly Wong allegedly sent to News 10 Now, according to a city official.
City spokesman Andrew Block said police were currently investigating the contents of the package and that more information would be available tomorrow. Police have yet to confirm that the package came from Wong.
According to News10Now.com, the letter was postmarked Friday, April 3 — the day of the shooting. However, according to the Web site, the letter was written March 18, more than two weeks before Friday’s massacre.
The letter delivered to the Syracuse office of News 10 Now was sent in a package containing Wong’s driver’s license, gun permit and pictures of Wong with his guns.
“I am Jiverly Wong shooting the people,” the letter said, according to the Associated Press. “The first I want to say sorry I know a little English. I hope you understand all of this. Of course you need to know why I shooting?”
The letter details the police harrassment Wong said followed him from California to New York, the AP reported.
“Any way I can not accepted my poor life. Before I cut my poor life I must oneself get a judge job for make an impartial with undercover cop by at least two people with me go to return to the dust of earth,” the letter read.
Wong entered the American Civic Assocation at around 10:30 a.m. Friday morning, opening fire on all inside and killing 13 people, including himself, police said.
Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan said he did not know when the center would reopen its doors. He said the decision had not yet been reached.
Yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith announced that New York State would provide a $100,000 grant to the organization.
