More than four months after Chancellor Nancy Zimpher called for SUNY to review Binghamton University’s athletic department, the results — which point the finger at some of BU’s top officials, past and present — are in.
The 102-page report alleges that these individuals looked the other way when it came to dealing with certain incidents involving the basketball team. It also alleges that former basketball player Derrick “D.J” Rivera was involved in a debit card scheme, in which he bought a television and clothing at a local Walmart in September in the presence of other players.
It also states that President Lois DeFleur was aware of the incident.
Additionally, the report lists specific e-mails exchanged between coaches and professors, in which the former requested extensions on assignments for their players.
