As a student, going to see a movie these days can take a huge chunk out of your already frighteningly low amount of spending money. With prime-time tickets starting at $9, it often seems like instead of going to dinner and a movie, you’ve got to choose between the two — and that’s without popcorn and a drink.

For anyone who can’t spare upwards of $10 to $15 to go see one movie, there is another option: the Endicott Cinema Saver. Many of you have probably heard of it or wondered what it was when you were looking up movie times on Moviefone or Fandango, but how many of you have actually gone?

The Cinema Saver definitely has a certain level of shadiness — it’s in a strange part of Endicott, the theaters are a far cry from the stadium seating that we are used to and it’s probably a good idea to pee before you get there — but the benefits far outweigh any amount of sketchiness.

Here are the top four reasons you should give the Endicott Cinema Saver the benefit of the doubt.

1. You literally cannot find a better price for a movie anywhere. For students, the price of admission is only $2.25 — even on a Saturday night. At that rate, you could see four movies for the price of one admission at either AMC or Regal. In addition to the cheap ticket prices, the concessions are also only a fraction of what you might pay at a regular theater.

2. Since the Cinema Saver gets movies a few months after the release date, you can catch something that you may have missed the first time around. Obviously the downside of the late release is that you probably don’t want to wait around for the newest blockbuster. Everyone knows, however, that there are certain movies that you kind of wanted to see, but you weren’t willing to spend the money on and in that case, the Cinema Saver is the perfect answer.

3. They have slushies. Not ICEEs and not bootleg imitations. The Cinema Saver has the original Slush Puppie machine with the spinning cup and the dog with all the awesome flavors that we loved as kids. And they are cheap too. You can get a movie ticket and a slushie for something ridiculous like $3.75. Win.

4. It plays “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” The Cinema Saver is part of the cult phenomena that is Rocky Horror. Every month the Cinema Saver has a midnight showing of the film, which has never been out of theaters since its original release in 1975. The show is complete with audience participation, costumes and people acting out the film in front of the screen. So if you’d like to do the Time Warp for real, the Endicott Cinema Saver is the place for you.

So if you are the average college student — a.k.a don’t have money to spare — keep in mind that the Cinema Saver is probably the cheapest date around. You can get two movie tickets, two slushies and a popcorn, all for the price of one admission elsewhere. True, if you’re looking for great high-definition picture and booming surround sound, it may not be the best option for you, but for anyone else, the Cinema Saver is well worth a try. Check it out. You won’t regret it — and you won’t have to fast for three days in order to pay for a night out.
