No matter how hard you try, you can’t help but fall in love with the fun, dance-worthy and catchy music of pop-rock band Status Green.
The band hails from Freehold Township, N.J., half-an-hour from Asbury Park and fifteen minutes from Holmdel, where Status Green is set to release its third full-length album, “Cheap Sunglasses,” during a release party on Feb. 20.
The event will be held at the Stone Pony, a legendary music venue where Jersey native Bruce Springsteen began his career.
This fun-loving rock group was formed after lead singer Lou Montesano left his hometown in Jersey to travel across America. After living in both California and Hawaii for a period of time, he went back home with the intention of pursuing his dream.
“I wanted to make a kick-ass rock band,” Montesano said, and that’s exactly what he did.
The band played its very first show in November 2005 and the addicting riffs and beats caused the band to be an instant hit, and they have been progressing ever since.
“There’s an art to leaving an impression on someone with your music,” Montesano explained. “They will have a better chance of remembering your songs, which has to do with aspects such as the lyrics, chorus or vocals.”
There’s no doubt that Status Green’s music has what it takes to draw you in — and keep you there.
Before you know it, you’ll be singing along to catchy new tunes such as “Denver After Dawn.” Each song is unique, with pure talent bursting at every hook. All it takes is one listen to a song like “Monroe St.” for fans to be convinced that the boys of Status Green truly are “the kids of the old rock and roll.”
One of Status Green’s numerous accomplishments include opening for Bon Jovi for a crowd of 10,000 people in only its seventh show. With an outstanding record of previous concerts, Status Green has opened for big-name acts such as Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco and Linkin Park.
The band has also participated in nationwide music festivals such as South by Southwest (SXSW), Summerfest, MOBfest and the Florida Music Festival, and played a few dates on the Vans Warped Tour in 2009.
They are currently attempting to join the full tour for this upcoming summer. Status Green also had the chance to play at the PNC Bank Arts Center, which guitarist Chris Marino stated as his favorite memory of being in Status Green.
“I’ve been going there to see concerts for years and years and being able to play on that stage is pretty cool,” Marino said.
Status Green is currently in the running to win the Break’N Through competition, a contest created to support the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Although the contest offers Status Green an exciting opportunity, it arrived as a complete surprise.
“Our friend found out about it and submitted the band to the contest without us even knowing. It wasn’t until we made it to the semifinals when she told us what happened,” Marino said.
The semifinals were held at the Highline Ballroom in New York City, where Status Green displayed its talent to win the “All Things Rock” showcase. With such an impressive prize at stake, this may be the big break the band has been hoping for. The winner will receive the chance to play on an NBC late-night show.
As for other future plans, Status Green will embark on a five-week tour beginning on March 9.
The band will be bringing its fun and energetic performances to cities across the country, including multiple college campuses. With a live concert tied to the amicable personalities of the band members, the audience is sure to leave with lasting memories of an amazing experience.
“One of the biggest parts of the shows is hanging out with the fans,” Montesano said. “It’s really special because those are the people who are coming out to see us play.”
The future looks very promising for this Jersey rock quartet, whose accomplishments continue to grow through persistence, hard work and melodies that make your heart pound to the beat of rock.
