After a historic season last year, senior guard Jeremiah Quigley hopes to continue his success as the Bearcats get ready for the upcoming season. Team captain Quigley has some big goals in mind, both for himself and the team, with his biggest goal being to bring the America East Championship to Vestal.
Last season, Quigley became the first AE player in 21 years, and just the sixth in conference history, to average more than 14 points and six assists per game. Despite this impressive accomplishment, Quigley aimed to improve even more this season, especially when it comes to his passing and scoring.
“Some personal goals I have for this year is, most importantly, win a championship — an America East Conference championship,” Quigley said. “That would mean a lot to the program. Personally, I want to lead the country in assists, and I just really want to be the best version of me.”
Along with his personal goals, Quigley prioritized his vital role as one of the team’s captains. He seeks to ensure his teammates remain focused and driven toward the team’s shared goal of victory.
Quigley said his approach has remained consistent and explained that his mindset has, for the most part, remained unchanged.
“Mindset is to win,” Quigley said. “Mindset is to keep my teammates right, keep us on track, do everything it takes to win, and that’s about it.”
With the season approaching, Quigley also looked forward to getting back on the court with his teammates. When asked which opponent he was most excited or nervous to face this year, he couldn’t pick just one. Instead, he explained that he is excited for every game, regardless of who the Bearcats are facing next.
“I’m not gonna lie, every game I’m excited for,” Quigley said. “I can’t really pick one game, I can’t lie to you, because I’m excited to play every game, because it’s a blessing to just be out there.”
Another thing Quigley is looking forward to this season is having a healthy team. He hopes that the Bearcats can stay healthy throughout the year and have their full roster available for as many games as possible.
While Quigley had an impressive season last year, he did not want to stop there. He is hoping to continue improving different parts of his game, while also becoming a better teammate and helping the Bearcats win more games.
“I’m just looking to improve, improve every year,” Quigley said. “I’m just looking to get better with passing, get better with scoring, get better with being a better teammate.”
Aside from basketball itself, Quigley also spoke about what he enjoyed about being at Binghamton. Before coming to Binghamton, he spent time playing at Iona University and George Mason University. Having experienced different basketball programs, Quigley explained that one of his favorite things about Binghamton is the relationship he had with the coaching staff.
“I can’t stress this enough. I love the coaching staff here,” Quigley said. “It just feels like a family. When I first got here, it just felt like I was brought in, and it wasn’t like a business. They really cared about me.”
Quigley also explained that the coaches were one of the biggest reasons he decided to return to Binghamton for another season.
Quigley also shared what kind of music he likes to listen to before games. When asked about his go-to song to get excited before a matchup, he said that he doesn’t have one specific song, but rather one favorite artist.
“Anything NBA YoungBoy,” Quigley said. “It don’t matter what song. As long as it’s that artist, I’m getting hyped to it.”
As Quigley prepares for another season with the Bearcats, he hopes to build on last year’s success. Between improving his individual performance, helping his teammates and continuing to grow as a player, his senior season is one the upcoming season.
However, the one thing that matters most to Quigley is helping the Bearcats bring a home conference title.
