Binghamton women’s soccer played the University at Buffalo on Sunday, ending the game in a 0-0 draw.

Within the first five minutes of the game, both teams were gauging the field. There was a corner kick and one foul placed on Binghamton, but no scores. The Bearcats worked the ball towards the goal, but the Bulls’ defense proved to be a strong match for their aggressive approach. The University of Buffalo made a shot attempt, but Binghamton’s defense managed to push them off.

The Bulls took another shot on goal soon after, but it went high.

Almost halfway through the first half, Buffalo recorded four shot attempts, all of which either missed the net or were stopped by Binghamton’s defensive lineup. Senior goalkeeper Rebecca Kessler made an impressive save on a Buffalo shot in the 30th minute. Junior forward Jahkaya Davis made a solid low center shot at the goal, which was blocked by Buffalo’s keeper.

“I think we [had] normal physical and aggressive style, especially in terms of how we like to press and create pressure off of that,” said head coach Neel Bhattacharjee.

He also emphasized that he was “overall pretty pleased with the effort and how we executed the game plan” and that they will be returning to training this weekend to ensure any future shot attempts are a success.

The second half began with more back-and-forth play on both ends of the field. Both the Bearcats and Bulls fought for possession of the ball in hopes of securing the first goal of the game. Once again, Kessler successfully saved another shot from the Bulls. Binghamton’s players worked the field to create goal opportunities, proven by senior midfielder/forward Paige Luke with a double shot attempt sequence. However, both attempts were stopped by the Bulls’ keeper.

Binghamton continued to fight for a goal as junior forward Alexus Worell drove the ball low center into the zone, but the shot was once again prevented. Following up on that momentum, freshman midfielder Lizzie Holstein aimed for the goal, but just missed the net high and left. Binghamton scrambled as the game’s end approached, while Davis and Luke both attempted shots that narrowly missed the Bulls’ net.

“While we are really pleased with the effort and the execution of our game, we will feel a bit disappointed in not ultimately getting the win,” said Bhattacharjee. “But this match will help us prepare for America East play as we continue to show growth leading up to that. We will get much needed recovery before we play an exciting weekend coming up against Power 4 sides and look forward to getting back to scoring goals and getting the result.”

Despite numerous scoring opportunities and strong offensive and defensive play, Binghamton closed another game of the season with a 0-0 tie against the Bulls. Both teams played hard, with their defense and offense displaying the matching talent and effort that resulted in the day’s outcome.

Binghamton is set to play at 6:07 p.m, Thursday, Sept. 3, on its home turf against Syracuse University at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
