Two weeks ago I wrote about the Mets’ hot start and how promising they looked through the first 11 games of the season.

Yeah, about that…

Since the series against the Twins, the Amazin’s were swept by the Rockies, won two out of three against the Nationals, lost two out of three against the Dodgers and, most recently, were swept by the Phillies. It is this inconsistent play that has irked Mets fans many a year.

The first month of the season is almost in the books, so to mark that occasion, I will give out my first month grades for a few of the key aspects of the 2013 Mets thus far:

Matt Harvey: A

-I don’t really have to delve into how and why Matt Harvey has been important to the Mets so far. The numbers speak for themselves: 4-0, 1.54 ERA, 0.69 WHIP. His worst start was still a quality start. His 95-99 mile per hour fastball and filthy breaking ball have kept hitters looking foolish.

The Bullpen: C-

-The bullpen has turned in some nice performances, but I cringe whenever Latroy Hawkins, Scott Atchison (who?) or Scott Rice enters a game. Recently, the bullpen has let games get out of hand, so the Mets should look to shore up its bullpen in the next couple of months, whether through trade or otherwise. At least Bobby Parnell has done decently enough to avoid criticism this time around.

Ike Davis: C

-It’s déjà vu all over again with Mr. Davis. Another slow start with an average below the Mendoza Line. He has shown bursts of power, but at times, he seems to be behind on a lot of pitches and looks to drive the ball out of the park every at bat. Dave Hudgens, the hitting coach, should have a little talk with Ike to fix his approach at the plate. I would be content with Ike hitting .275 with 22 home runs rather than .220 with 35 homers.

April Weather: F

-Too many postponements. I have never in my 19-plus years of existence and my 16-plus years of watching baseball seen three games in less than one week postponed because of snow. April weather can be awful, but it has never been like this.
