After winning the America East tournament last weekend, the Binghamton men’s tennis team learned on Tuesday night that it will face No. 3 Georgia in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Bearcats (16-9) gathered in the Events Center’s TAU Bearcat Room to watch the NCAA Selection Show.

Binghamton earned the America East’s NCAA bid by beating UMBC, 4-0, Sunday afternoon, while the Bulldogs (22-4) swept No. 7 Tennessee in the SEC Championship.

“It’s going to be nice to play such a high seed,” senior Bastian Bornkessel said. “[We’ll] obviously give our best and try to win the game.”

Bornkessel earned his 70th career doubles win, which ranks fourth in program history, with a win over UMBC.

Last year, the Bearcats lost in the first round of the tournament to No. 13 Ole Miss, while Georgia fell in the quarterfinals to No. 7 Pepperdine.

Binghamton will face Georgia on May 10 at 1 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
