Girls are complicated.

It’s a fact that’s practically instilled in us from birth. It’s known and accepted that there’s one week a month girls shouldn’t be bothered, a Sweet 16 is basically a mini-wedding and we cry during “Titanic.”

But there are some other things about girls that aren’t as obvious. Sometimes things are overlooked or forgotten, and you don’t want to be on the receiving end of that mistake.

Luckily, I am about to inform you of the five things about girls that you should probably know.

1. We are well aware of the weather.

You may be wondering why I’m letting you know this, but let me explain. I’m sure you’ve seen us Downtown in either tube tops or mini-skirts (or both at the same time) during the winter. We don’t need to be reminded of how cold it is — we know. Sorry we don’t walk around Scoreboard in snowsuits when it’s snowing or rain boots when it’s raining — but for some strange reason I feel like there isn’t a lot of complaining about our “out-of-season” attire.

2. We’re a little creepy.

OK, I know everyone pretty much is, but we can be really creepy. And we lie about it, but for the sole reason that we don’t want to seem as creepy as we actually are. For example, there’s a good chance we’ve seen every single one of your 2,500 tagged pictures. There’s an even better chance that we were looking at them right before you walked into the room, but we’ll never tell you that.

3. We think about “it,” too.

Guys aren’t the only ones who think about sex. Just because we don’t outwardly talk about it as much, doesn’t mean we aren’t thinking about it. We’re supposed to keep a classy image and leave some things to the imagination, especially when we don’t really do that with our practically nonexistent clothing.

4. We like to flirt.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always mean something. There’s a difference between flirting in a friendly way and flirting in an “I want to get with you” way, and the two are confused all too often. It gets really annoying when a guy misinterprets friendliness as an excuse to touch our asses and we’re forced to act like bitches. It’s not our fault — it’s yours. If we like you we’ll make it clear. We just like to have fun and we can do that without your mouth on ours.

5. We need girl time.

Whether your best friend is a guy or a girl, there’s something to be said about the bond between two girlfriends. Of course we can be best friends with guys, but there’s some things that we would feel much more comfortable talking to a girl about. I don’t think guys would really want to hear about (or could relate to) how much we’d kill for a heating pad or whether we should buy the newest Essie or OPI nail polish colors. I don’t mean it in an offensive way — I’m sure there are things guys would much rather save for “bro talk.”

I’m not saying these facts apply to all girls, but I’d say the majority probably feel this way. To really understand us, though, it’d take a lot more than knowing these five things. I could tell you, but that’d just kill the fun of finding out for yourself. But that’s another thing about us: you’ll never really understand.
