Not quite the same effort as last season, but a win is a win.

The Binghamton University women’s basketball team notched a 66-41 victory against Colgate on Wednesday. This win marks the fourth consecutive win in as many seasons for the Bearcats against the Raiders.

Binghamton beat Colgate, 74-26, last season at the Events Center and a similar result was expected this year. However, another average shooting night for the Bearcats kept the Raiders closer than usual.

BU used an 11-0 run to break open the game in the first half. The Bearcats built a 38-22 lead at the break and never looked back. They maintained at least a 20-point lead during the entire second half.

BU junior guard Muffy Sadler led the team with a career-high 18 points on seven-for-nine shooting from the floor. She knocked down four 3-pointers on six attempts.

Teammate senior Laura Franceski notched 10 points and five rebounds and junior guard Erica Carter had nine points, all from 3-pointers.

Despite just shooting 39.7 percent for the game, BU hit nine of 21 threes and used stifling defense to force 22 Colgate turnovers.

“This was good win for our team to get,” head coach Nicole Scholl said, according to a Binghamton University press release. “It gives them a taste of what it is like to win heading into our home opener on Friday.”

Binghamton looks to avenge a heartbreaking loss at Portland State last season. BU trailed 62-60 in last season’s opener with six seconds to go and missed two free throws that would have tied the game. The Bearcats blew a 10-point second half lead to the Vikings in the game.

Binghamton will take on Portland State tonight at 7 p.m. at the Events Center.
