In an e-mail message today, Binghamton University President Lois DeFleur announced her plans to retire come July, citing personal reasons.
DeFleur said that winter break allowed her to “deal with some family issues” and to “carefully consider” her personal life, including plans to marry this summer and spend time with her mother.
In the meantime, the BU Council will look for a replacement for DeFleur, who has been the University’s president for 19 years.
